I am pleased to announce the creation and launch of a “new” Mississippi State University web environment that is accessible to everyone -- and especially to individuals with disabilities.
This has been a very significant undertaking, involving our senior leadership team working in concert with MSU’s Information Technology Services, Office of Public Affairs, Office of General Counsel and the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness. This environment provides a standard, university platform to develop and maintain public-facing websites in compliance with federal law. University websites that guarantee full access to web-delivered content for those with disabilities is more than a federal mandate. It is also the right thing to do.
One of our core values as a university is a strong commitment to celebrating diversity and inclusion in all university programs, institutions and services. This challenging effort is yet another step in furthering that commitment to inclusion. It is important that we remain vigilant and fully mindful of this service as our website and online content evolves. The principles outlined in the 2019 MSU Operating Policy 01.13 (World Wide Web Pages and Other Electronic Publications) must be a campus-wide priority in future design and content development.
I commend and offer much thanks to those who have helped us move this initiative forward, and I urge each of you to continue to work toward producing and maintaining a web environment that is accessible to all.
Hail State!
Mark E. Keenum, President
